The Brooklynn Twirl Top – Knits & Wovens

Last week I was given the opportunity to test a new pattern by Little 4 Awhile, The Brooklynn Twirl Top. The patterns from Little 4 Awhile are intended to be used for upcycling existing t-shirts into adorable ruffled shirts & dresses. I had picked up this Paul Frank/Julius Jr. knit a few weeks back and thought it was my best bet at getting my non-frilly girl interested in this top. The Brooklynn Twirl Top pattern includes a bodice piece with instructions for cutting strips for the Read More...

Create This Look – Brown & Espresso Cheetah Chiffon

This super cute and flowy dress is inspired by the “Stealth & Stylish Dress in Leopard” from ModCloth. They have actually taken it off of the site, so making it yourself is the only way your going to get it into your wardrobe! The pattern I chose M6503 has many variations. I recommend View C, but there are so many options you can totally mix and match and make it completely your own. I run across some really cool fabric, if I Read More...

Create This Look – Coral & Charcoal Various Stripe Jersey/Spandex

This weeks look is perfect for all sewing levels. Especially for beginners. It is inspired by “Cheers On The Cape Dress” from ModCloth. The pattern has several different versions, but view D seems to match the inspiration dress the best. I also think View E & F would look really cool with this fabric. The fabric I choose is a super soft cotton jersey/spandex stripe. The stripe runs across the width of the fabric, so the stripes should be horizontal when you cut it out. I really like the combination Read More...

Create This Look – Purple & Royal Ethnic Stripe Chiffon

This week I’m mixing it up! Lets make a top!!! I have noticed that ethnic/tribal prints are really hot right now. And it just so happens, we have a ton of  these really awesome ethnic/tribal style printed chiffons. This week I was inspired by the “Map To Fab Top” from ModCloth. The fabric I chose has a very similar print to the inspiration top, just different colors. The inspiration top is not lined so I didn’t suggest a lining fabric, though you Read More...

Flannel for All

If you’re anything like me, you tend to wait until the last minute to make holiday gifts and winter clothing. If you are, consider this a little nudge to get thinking about some handmade gifts! Last week we added several flannel prints to the site! Flannel is lightweight and cozy, making it perfect for clothing, pjs, quilts and crafts! I was recently given the opportunity to make this Hooded Jacket pattern by Whimsy Couture and since my little girl has taken a liking Read More...

Create This Look – Turquoise Tribal Floral Chiffon

This Week’s Create This Look This Weeks Look is got to be my favorite so far. It is inspired by “Frisson & Sand” Dress fromModCloth. It uses 3 different fabrics: a floral chiffon for the skirt, a knit cotton/poly lace for the bodice, & a lightweight polyester to line both the bodice & skirt. It took a lot longer to put this look together since I had to make sure we still had all 3 of the fabrics used to create it. Read More...

Sorry guys. 😐 If you live in a hot and/or humid climate, you will appreciate this weeks look! This beautiful strappy maxi dress is inspired by the “Architectural Adoration Dress” found on ModCloth.com. The fabric chosen for this weeks look is a lightweight cotton jersey that has a really pretty Moroccan style damask print. The style of maxi dress is perfect Read More...

It has the elegance of linen with a casual weekend feel. Here is some inspiration for putting our Chambray fabrics to work! Chambray makes a great neutral in quilting and bag projects. Create This Look – Ivory & Black Polkadot Rayon/Linen Blend

This week’s Create This Look is very simple, but fun! The inspiration dress this week is called “Too Much Fun Dress in White Dots” from ModCloth.  The type of fabric I chose for this dress is very different from the fabric used in the inspiration dress. The inspiration dress uses a crisper 100% cotton. I chose a Rayon/Linen blend, which gives the linen a nice flowy drape. I would recommend lining this fabric, not only because it is white, but also Read More...
