Sparkle Linen Valentine Pillow
Happy February! I’m Jaime from Made By Jaime (@MadeByJaime on Twitter & Instagram). It’s been a long time since I’ve been at TheFabricMarket.com Blog but it’s good to be back and I’m especially excited to share with you this Valentine’s Pillow!
I always have good intentions of celebrating the various holidays throughout the year, but most of the time they sneak up on me and are gone before I realize what’s happened. This is a super simple project for wannabe holiday decorators and die-hard holiday lovers alike.
As I browsed the Fabric Market website, this Charcoal Sparkle Chambray Linen caught my eye immediately. I had this tutorial for a valentine’s pillow in mind and knew this sparkle linen was a perfect starting point for making my own. Then I grabbed some red scraps from my stash and cut out some hearts. If you follow the tutorial linked above, there is a link to a heart printable, in case you’re like me and don’t trust your free-hand cutting skills.
Next, i used wonder-under (you could also use HeatNBond or lots of pins) to keep the hearts in place and stitch around them with your machine. This could also be done by hand. Then take some embroidery floss or a few strands of whatever you have on hand and use a back stitch to stitch out the “clothesline” for the hearts, taking a 1/2″ – 3/4″ stitch through the center of the heart so it looks like they’re strung up in a bunting.
I used this red upholstery canvas for the back and followed this tutorial to figure out the right measurements for an envelope pillow back. If you like, you could do a zipper back, a button back, or just do a solid back.
Make two or three in different sizes and colors to place in different locations around your house for some fun DIY holiday decor. They’d also make a quick and easy handmade gift! If you make something with fabrics from TheFabricMarket.com, be sure to share them with us on our facebook page!
