Perfect Boys Shorts
Last week I shared a great shorts pattern for girls and women. Today I’m back to share a boys shorts pattern that is comfy, stylish and incredibly quick to sew!
These are the Coastal Craze Baggies by Peek A Boo Pattern Shop. The pattern includes sizing from 3 months to 12 years and can be made with woven or knit! We wandered the aisles of the brick & morter version of TheFabricMarket.com and found this great dark green bottom-weight with a little Read More...
The Brooklynn Twirl Top – Knits & Wovens
Last week I was given the opportunity to test a new pattern by Little 4 Awhile, The Brooklynn Twirl Top.
The patterns from Little 4 Awhile are intended to be used for upcycling existing t-shirts into adorable ruffled shirts & dresses. I had picked up this Paul Frank/Julius Jr. knit a few weeks back and thought it was my best bet at getting my non-frilly girl interested in this top.
The Brooklynn Twirl Top pattern includes a bodice piece with instructions for cutting strips for the Read More...
Flannel for All
If you’re anything like me, you tend to wait until the last minute to make holiday gifts and winter clothing. If you are, consider this a little nudge to get thinking about some handmade gifts!
Last week we added several flannel prints to the site! Flannel is lightweight and cozy, making it perfect for clothing, pjs, quilts and crafts! I was recently given the opportunity to make this Hooded Jacket pattern by Whimsy Couture and since my little girl has taken a liking Read More...
Star Wars Day – May the Fourth
For all the Star Wars fans out there, it’s Star Wars day! May the Fourth be with you.
A lot of the customers we see locally at F&M Fabrics are making costumes, whether for ballet, their highschool opera, the melodrama or for Halloween. The prices at TheFabricMarket.com are so good, it makes a great source for all your costuming needs!
I married into a Star Wars Family. I did not grow up watching the movies, but I’ve enjoyed getting to know them and Read More...
Easter Bunny Dress
Last year I got a bunny print fat quarter bundle through Instagram and just knew it would be an Easter dress for this year. Knowing I had a variety of prints, I chose the Bloomshine Maxi Pattern by Ping Fig Desgins. A few fat quarters, however, would not be near enough to make a maxi dress so I headed to TheFabricMarket to pick up some cotton prints to supplement.
The top tier of the dress is a cream colored solid and Read More...
Mixing Knits & Wovens
If you’ve been out shopping lately, you’ve noticed the trend of mixing knits and wovens. The result is comfortable, but a step up from the every day t-shirt and the combination works great for both work or casual!
If you’ve worked with knits before, you know these tips:
Use a ballpoint or stretch needle
Adjust your pressure foot pressure to be a little less than usual
Seam with a narrow zigzag
Hem with a wide zigzag, decorative stitch or double needle
Don’t stretch as you sew, just Read More...
Otium Top in Sweater Knit
Knit fabrics are sometimes intimidating for those new to sewing garments or new to sewing in general, but let’s face it – we all LIVE in knits. They’re comfy and flexible and once you get the hang of it, a breeze to sew! I recently took part in a pattern tour in which the Pattern Designer gave out her pattern to a few families to sew up their version and spread the word about it. I live just a Read More...
