Basic Skirt Variation: Self-Drafted Denim Skirt
A few weeks back I shared my self-drafted skirt as the start of my journey through Cal Patch’s Book Design It Yourself Clothes. Today I’m here to show you a variation!
As I mentioned, the premise of the book is that once you draft a well-fitting basic pattern, you can draft different styles off of it, knowing it fits you to a tee. You can build an entire wardrobe from 4 or 5 basic patterns! One of the variations the book is the Rosie denim skirt.
I took their suggestion and made it shorter with the idea of wearing over leggings. It could also be worn by itself or over a swimsuit – separates are so flexible!
The book takes you through drafting this style off of the Basic Skirt Pattern by tracing the original onto new pattern paper, drawing the hemline shorter, adding 1″ side slits, drafting a waistband (options of curved or straight) and pockets.
The finishing suggested is a side button closure but you could do a back zip or fly zipper (instructions not included in the book).
I chose a really soft light to medium weight denim for this project and it’s really easy and comfortable to wear. You can see all of TheFabricMarket.com’s denim here.
