FREE Sewing Pattern for Girls – The London Dress
It’s not a secret that I love sewing with The Fabric Market’s Poly Cotton fabrics, so when I saw the London Dress PDF Tutorial released as a FREE pattern from Violette Field Threads (coupon code is available in their Facebook Group) I ran in to grab a few yards.
Fabric Choices
After wandering the aisles, I chose this Vintage Floral Batiste as the main fabric.
I then grabbed the following Poly Cotton solids as coordinates:
Fuchsia for the straps
Olive for the ruffle
Peach for the lining (not included in the pattern directions)
The London dress is a fabulous summer dress with a tiny bodice and gathered empire skirt. My daughter loves the billowy movement and often tells me how comfortable she is in it! If you don’t like the proportion and prefer a longer bodice, there are instructions in the tutorial on how to lengthen it.
The tutorial features bias tape straps and works with self-made bias tape or pre-packaged bias tape. The straps are meant to tie at the shoulders, but the pattern could be altered to create a plain strap if desired.
The London Dress would work perfectly with a long sleeved shirt underneath in the fall/winter and cozy boots. It’s a dress that could be worn year round!
